does your dog have what it takes?
The charity dog shows form an integral part of the North East Dog Festival. For years charities have raised thousands for their individual causes with hundreds of dogs taking part in a fantastic range of classes.
This year we welcome returning favourites Roo's Journey and Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter. Find out more below about the Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter Dog Show sponsored by Hatton's Hungry Hounds.

Hatton's Hungry Hounds are a family run business based in Bebside (Blyth), Northumberland who sell natural dog treats, dried dog food, Natural Instinct frozen dog food and some accessories. They pride themselves in providing high quality natural products free from artificial additives. They started trading in 2022 and now have a loyal customer base as well as continually seeing new customers arrive, mainly through word of mouth and recommendations. You might also see them at festivals and shows throughout the year - just look for the trademarked bright orange marquee. You can also visit the team monthly at Blyth beach market.
Introducing the charity
Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter helps animals that are lost, unwanted, neglected, abused and abandoned. They reunite lost animals with their owners and find loving new homes for those no longer wanted.
"Our objective is the promotion of kindness and prevention of cruelty to animals. We reunite lost animals with their owners and find loving new homes for those no longer wanted."
Festival directors commented "We are over the moon to have the team from Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter joining us again, this will be their third year and we are always grateful for the support our visitors show. Last year they raised over £2500 so we hope they can beat that this year. A huge thank you to Hatton's Hungry Hounds who are sponsoring their charity dog show; this support means there are hundreds of rosettes to be won "

Why did you decide to get involved with the festival?
We have been attending the North East Dog Festival for a few years now and it’s the highlight of our year as it's all about the dogs, so we thought why not sponsor it? We are also local traders, so it is nice to be able to trade alongside other local businesses and attend a local festival.
What are you most excited to see at the festival?
We love to watch the Flyball, but in general it is heartwarming to watch the interactions between dogs and their humans and see they joy on peoples faces when their dogs participate in activities and the shows.
What makes your business unique?
In comparison to others, our passion for dogs shines through in everything we do, from our interaction and personal touches we provide to our customers to the high quality products we supply. We are a small local family run business providing the highest quality dog treats. We are passionate about our local community and try to put back into the local area as much as we can. We sponsoring a local dog charity and a local girls football team.

"We love what we do as it is a pleasure to provide dogs with healthy snacks and food and hearing from our customers how much they enjoy them means a lot to us. We also love seeing the dogs come in the shop and pick their own treats, always fun to watch!"
